Chickens are lean. A 4-ounce roasted chicken leg contains 26. 5 calories and 15.4 grams of fat, compared to as much as 38. 9. calories and 30 grams of fat for an equal portion of steak.
But beware of the skin. The skin on one chicken leg accounts for 57. . calories. Remove the skin after you cook chicken. You can remove it before, but cooking it with the skin adds flavor and reduces the need for oil. If, however, you’re cooking chicken with something else that will soak up the fat — soup, for instance —remove the skin before cooking.
