How many calories are in a tablespoon of salad dressing? Try 74 for creamy bleu cheese, 72 for oil and vinegar — plus 7 or 8 grams of fat! Even sour cream has half the calories and fat of salad dressing. And then there’s quantity. When was the last time you used just a single dollop of dressing on your salad?
Use only low-calorie dressing. Better yet, pass on the oil and sprinkle your salad with wine vinegar, balsamic vinegar or a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a little pepper and salt. Or skip the dressing altogether and use saucy foods, instead. Spaghetti, chili and pizza, for instance, are great on salad greens. Fresh salads are really a lot more interesting when they’re not drowned in dressing.
