Women who suffer from PMS (premenstrual syndrome) may have worse symptoms, from headaches to depression, while they’re dieting. According to Dr. Judith Wurtman, a psychologist who has done a great deal of research on the effect of food on mood, cutting carbohydrates during a diet can make PMS even worse.
If you experience this, eat more carbohydrates for a few days before and after your period. Dr. Wurtman says you’ll just have to accept that you probably won’t lose weight during a PMS week, but you can get back to your diet afterward.
