(ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, Reuters) A French marine archaeologist has uncovered many rare artifacts in the submerged ancient city of Heracleion off the Egyptian coast.
Among the newly uncovered treasures are colossal statues, sunken ships, gold coins and jewelry.
The archaeologist believes Heracleion had been destroyed by an earthquake or similar, sudden catastrophic event.
