September 10, 2005
Dear Yulin,
Sorry that it’s taken me awhile to write you back. I’ve been busy. I found an apartment last week. I’m sharing it with another Taiwanese student, a friend of my cousin’s. There are quite a few other Taiwanese students here, and even a Taiwanese student organization, which I’ve joined. To answer your third question, my roommate and I usually cook at home. We usually eat Chinese food (yes, you can buy it here), but sometimes we try to make Western dishes or go out to eat.
Classes have already started, so I have a lot to do. I have trouble understanding the professors’ lectures, so I take a tape recorder to class. This means I have to spend time listening to the tapes. I hope my English improves quickly so I won’t have to do this anymore. You may think my English is better than yours, but I don’t. In any case, mine still isn’t good enough!
How are things in Taiwan?
Sincerely,
Julie Chen
